HOW TO APPLY
APPLICATION TO STUDY AT THE UFS IS FREE
ONLINE application: Visit https://apply.ufs.ac.za. Keep your mobile phone and an active email address ready, as you require both to access and complete the online application form.
Proceed through all the steps and submit your electronic application. Make sure that you complete the application form thoroughly, e.g. if you need on-campus residence accommodation or financial aid, indicate this in the relevant section.
Upload copies of the following in PDF or JPEG format when you apply for undergraduate studies:
Your ID if you are a South African citizen
Your passport if you are an international student
Your parent’s ID or passport if you are younger than 18
National Senior Certificate if you already matriculated
Your final Grade 11 results with the school’s stamp
Grade 12 June results with the school’s stamp as soon as it becomes available. It can also be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org, especially if you have applied for a selection programme
Your academic record, only if you are a current student at another institution of higher learning
USAf accreditation from the examination board for South African universities. Apply to mb.usaf.ac.za for conditional exemption, foreign conditional exemption, or mature age conditional exemption.

APPLICATION & ADMISSION AS AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT
The UFS uses a conversion table to help us consider all applications equally. If you are an international and/or home-schooled prospective student, use the conversion table in the Prospectus 2021 below to calculate your AP (admission point). The table applies to all examination authorities/bodies in South Africa, as well as internationally.

A non-refundable annual administrative fee is charged on all international student accounts.
Closing date for international students’ applications for undergraduate studies is 31 August 2020.
You must have a VALID study visa before you can enter South Africa.
Make sure your study visa is issued for study purposes at the UFS, and not at any other institution in South Africa. You must have a valid and appropriate/correct visa to be registered at the UFS.
You must be a member of a medical aid registered in terms of the Medical Schemes Act 1998 of South Africa, as required by the South African Immigration Act. It is important that your medical aid cover MUST be valid for the duration of your studies at the UFS. No travel insurance, hospital plans or foreign medical aids will be accepted. The first payment is required before you can register as a UFS student. The Department of Student Finance will communicate the amount and payment deadline to you. For more information, visit tuition fees
If you have a scholarship, inform your sponsor of the UFS regulations on registration fees and tuition-fee payments before you register.
The university offers campus tours for individual prospective students, parents, teachers, or groups of fifty learners or less. The tours focus on academic programmes and includes visits to our seven faculties of excellence.
The tour includes a general presentation on application and admission requirements. An introduction to the vibrant Kovsie life is also included. A tour takes approximately two hours. It is important that such a tour is arranged in advance. Tour groups must arrange their own transport and refreshments.
Campus tours are available on Mondays to Fridays from 09:00 to 15:00.
